To the editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mat-Su Regional Hospital and recognize its outstanding care.
My mother, Susan Everett, was admitted there in June while on a trip with family and ended up being there for two weeks. I flew out to be with her and was amazed — and at times brought to tears by — the care she received while at that facility. Every person who came into contact with her treated her with the utmost care and respect. Every thought was given to her comfort, 24 hours a day. Even nurses who had cared for her on a different floor during an earlier brief admission came to ICU to check on her.
Their care also extended to us, her family. From allowing me in the night I arrived, after 16 hours flying cross-country, to the hugs, the explanations of everything that was going on with her, the coffee cart brought in so we wouldn’t have to leave her side, the staff thought of us constantly and did its utmost to make things as easy as it possibly could.
Your area has an absolutely wonderful hospital and staff. I would like to thank everyone, from all the nurses and doctors, the OR staff, housekeeping, respiratory and lab, food services and everyone else who had contact with her. I would especially like to thank Drs. John Brady and Jeffrey Melendez, and Kathie. Dr. Brady was untiring in his efforts to save her. Dr. Melendez and Kathie were there with us at the very end and they did their utmost to make it as easy for her and for us as they possibly could.
There were many other nurses who cared for her, and I apologize that I do not remember their names now.
Just because I don’t, though, doesn’t mean I don’t remember your faces and your hugs and talks — and most importantly your caring. I always will. And I will always appreciate that Mom spent her last days surrounded by such good people. She couldn’t have gotten better care anywhere.
I hope the community appreciates what a gem they have in Mat-Su. Thank you all for everything you did. It will never be forgotten by her family.
