Thursday was a pretty good night for the Von Gunten brothers.
Elijah and Kaleb Von Gunten combined for six goals to lead the Palmer Moose to an 8-6 nonconference win over rival Colony at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.
Elijah Von Gunten led the Moose with four goals and two assists during Division II Palmer’s win over the Division I Knights. Kaleb added two goals and an assist. Kaleb had the first assist on Elijah’s power play goal in the first period. Elijah set up Kaleb’s power play tally in the second.
Palmer scored three times with the man advantage. Kinan Greco added a power play goal. Zidane Dietz also scored for Palmer.
Jace Albers led Colony with a pair of goals, including one on the power play. Jaxon Allen, Logan Lofland and Austin Fangmann added goals. Freshman Connor Bullock scored his first career varsity goal.
Palmer outshot Colony 40-29. Kai Curl made 23 saves for the Moose. Tess Jorgensen and Traeton Adams split time in the Knights net. Jorgensen made 22 saves. Adams added 10 saves.
The Moose also swept a two-game home series against Division II Juneau-Douglas. Dietz, Elijah Von Gunten, Bryce Horacek and Zander Anderson scored during a 4-3 win over the Crimson Bears on Friday. Palmer also beat Juneau 8-4 on Saturday. Greco scored twice. Dietz, Horacek, Jacob Logan, Elijah Von Gunten, Kaleb Von Gunten and Cooper Frank also scored.
The Wasilla Warriors finished 2-1-0 during a three-day road trip in the Interior over the weekend.
The Warriors scored an 8-0 Railbelt Conference win over Lathrop. Evan Owen, Robert Johnson and Elijah Barcelona led Wasilla with two goals each. Mason Varner and Ethan Hoyt also scored for the Warriors. Wasilla outshot Lathrop 38-5. Braden Willis recorded the shutout.
West Valley beat Wasillac 4-0 in conference play.
Wasilla also earned a 3-2 nonconference win over North Pole. Easton Styers scored the game-winner late in the third period for Wasilla. Branson Hagel and Jacey Mattson also scored for the Warriors.
The Houston Hawks skated to a 6-3 Division II win over Tri Valley On Wednesday. Audrey Efimov had the hat trick. Daniel Matveev added two goals. Owen Hunter also scored. Ashton Vandersloot made 16 saves for Houston.
