ANCHORAGE — The Palmer Moose gave the defending state champion East Thunderbirds all they could handle through regulation. But in the end, the Moose simply ran out of gas.
East used an 18-1 run in the extra period to score a 72-55 win over Palmer during the third-place game of the Cougar Tip Off at Service High School Saturday.
Desmond Johnson scored eight of his game-high 24 points in overtime to lead the T-Birds to the win. Adam Ramoth led Palmer with 21 points. He hit a pair of three-pointers in the loss.
James Nisbett added 13 points for the Moose.

ANCHORAGE — Plagued by poor shooting, Palmer suffered at 58-34 loss to Service during the semifinals of the Cougar Tip Off at Service High Friday evening.
Palmer, which finished with one player in double digits in scoring, was held to 11 of 46 shooting and was 6 of 18 from the free throw line.
Senior Adam Ramoth drained five three-pointers and finished with a team-high 19 points.
