The Palmer girls basketball squad opened the annual Palmer Elks Showdown with a 61-43 victory over Eagle River Jan. 11 at Palmer High School.
Larkin Christiansen led the Moose with 17 points in the win. She scored 13 of her team’s 16 second-quarter points.
Palmer also added a 23-point third.
Presley Wright added 10 points, and Abby Pettit chipped in eight.
Palmer also played Grace Christian and West Valley in the three-day tourney. West Valley beat Palmer 47-33. Christiansen and Theresa Arreola scored 10 each.
Grace beat Palmer 67-43. Pettit led Palmer with 11.
The Palmer boys finished 0-3 during the Elks event, dropping games to Bartlett, South Anchorage and Grace.
South used a big third quarter to edge Palmer 65-63. The Wolverines scored 24 points in the third quarter. Lukas Owens hit four three-pointers and led the Moose with 15 points. Tony Sheldon and Deandre Nika added 10 each.
Grace beat Palmer 71-53. Nika scored a game-high 13 for the Moose.
Bartlett also scored an 89-69 win over Palmer.
The Houston boys played in the annual Alaska Prep Shootout over the weekend at Dimond High School in Anchorage
The Hawks capped their weekend with a 56-37 victory over Lumen Christi. Max Taylor scored a game-high 22 points. He hit four threes. Noah Whitted added 15 points and six assists.
Nome, a 3A rival, got past Houston 61-46. Whitted scored 19 for the Hawks. Taylor and Michael Sam added nine each.
Houston started its tourney with a 77-58 loss to host Dimond. Whitted netted 21 points. Parker Bethel chipped in eight.
