Moose girls, boys cap Palmer tourney with sweep of Eagle River

The Palmer Moose capped their week with a varsity basketball sweep of Eagle River during the final day of the Palmer Elks Showdown Saturday at Palmer High School.

Shea Halbert hit a trio of three-pointers and scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Palmer boys to a 54-45 win over the Wolves. Amiqaq Maclean added 13. Carson Helm and Gavin O’Brien chipped in eight each.

Palmer trailed early, but used a 17-6 second-quarter run to jump ahead.

The Palmer girls beat Eagle River 44-32. Dazhene Maclead led Palmer with 13. Catherine Uschmann scored nine, and Lily Anderson finished with seven.

The Palmer boys finished 2-1 in the tournament and the girls were 1-2. Halbert, Dae Osiensky and Lavar Marshall were named to the all-tournament team for the Palmer boys. Uschmann and Livia Solis represented the girls.

Redington girls third at Delta tourney

The Redington girls finished third at the Dean Cummings Classic in Delta Junction.

The Huskies scored their third-place finish with a 55-23 win over Glennallen on the final day of the tourney. Lexi Seymore scored a team-high 18 points. Marian Aparezuk added 15, and Abbie Fuller chipped in 14. Aparezuk hit a trio of three-pointers in the win. Seymore and Fuller were both named to the all-tournament team.

The Redington boys suffered an 82-49 loss to Galena during the final day of the tourney. Ruben Bond led the Huskies with 15. Wayde Bowman scored 11.

Colony boys race past Ketchikan

Colony cruised to a 99-64 win over Ketchikan during the final day of the O’Brady’s Invitational Saturday at South Anchorage High School. Jeremiah Hersrud collected 16 points and seven assists during the win. It marked the second game against the Kings, the defending 4A state champions, in a week. Last week, the Kings edged the Knights 45-44.

Colony also beat Anchorage Christian 69-46 during the South tourney.
