Moose girls score road wins

PALMER — Palmer head coach Harmony Chadwick has spent the season watching her squad put in the work. Friday, Chadwick had the chance to see her players celebrate their effort.

The Moose — who have been sort of snakebit on the offensive end ¬— erupted for six goals during a 6-3 win over Hutchison in Fairbanks.

“The last week we’ve been working on shooting and finishing, which helped,” Chadwick said by cellphone Saturday afternoon as her team made its way back to the Valley.

Chadwick said the confidence of her players grew with early goals against the Hawks.

“After a couple go in, it’s not I hope I can score. It’s oh, I can score,” Chadwick said.

Palmer scored three unanswered goals in the second half to grab the wild nonconference win. Palmer struck early, scoring three times in the first six minutes of play to take the early lead, but the Hawks answered with three goals to force the tie at halftime.

Senior captain Avery Parker scored twice in the second half for the Moose. Caile Dosser and Gurpreet Kaur Singh also scored a pair of goals each for the Moose.

Palmer followed the win over Hutchison with a 2-0 victory over Lathrop Saturday morning.

Isabelle Rice and Singh scored goals for Palmer. Shaleen Tolbert recorded the shutout in the Moose net.

“It’s fantastic to know we had it in us to win,” Chadwick said of the back-to-back victories.

Chadwick said she hopes her team can take the confidence gained from the nonconference victories into an important stretch of Northern Lights Conference play. Palmer plays Grace Christian Tuesday in the first of three key NLC games for the Moose. Palmer will also face Houston and Colony during the final stretch of the regular season.
