Moose, Hawks skate to road wins

The Palmer Moose and Houston Hawks picked up victories on the road over the weekend.

Palmer swept a two-game series in Kodiak, beating the Bears 13-0 and 10-1. Houston finished 1-1-0 in the Fairbanks, beating Monroe Catholic 11-1 and falling to North Pole 5-4.

Palmer’s Elijah Von Gunten and Bryce Horacek each notched a hat trick during the 13-0 victory over Kodiak. Liam Hilscher added two goals. Kinan Greco had a six-point night, with a goal and five assists.

Von Gunten added another hat trick in the 10-1 win the following day. Horacek and Chase Ringler had two goals each. Zander Anderson led Palmer with six points, a goal and five assists.

Houston started its road trip in the Fairbanks area with the 11-1 win over Monroe. Andrey Efimov and Daniel Matveev scored four goals each. Matveev added five assists for a nine-point night. Dylan Shaffer made 25 saves in the Hawks net.

North Pole edged the Hawks 5-4 the following day. Zasim Konev scored four goals. Shaffer made 37 saves.

Houston also had two games cancelled due to poor weather and road conditions. The Hawks had a second game scheduled against North Pole, and were also supposed to play Delta.

Wasilla and Colony had games against West Valley and Lathrop postponed. Both Fairbanks teams could not make the trip south to the Valley for the week, due to poor weather and road conditions. The total of four games are key in the Railbelt Conference, and will be rescheduled.
