A pair of Valley prep hockey teams skated to a win during their first game of the season. Both Palmer and Colony notched victories during the first day of the Peninsula Ice Challenge Thursday in Soldotna.
Palmer beat Kenai Central 8-3 and Colony edged Soldotna 4-3.
Liam Hilscher led the Moose with a hat trick during the win over the Kards. Elijah Von Gunten, Kinan Greco, Bryce Hornacek, Kaleb Von Gunten and Zander Anderson also scored. Elijah Von Gunten also had three assists.
Palmer goalie Mily Christman made 12 saves.
Logan Lofland scored twice to lead Colony to the win over Soldotna. Toryn Coffey and Jace Albers also scored. Jaxon Allen had a pair of assists. Goalie Traeton Adams made 25 saves for the Knights.
Palmer returns to the ice to face Soldotna Friday at 4:15 p.m., and the Knights and Kards follow at 7 p.m.
