ANCHORAGE — The second day of the Lady Lynx Prep Shootout produced opposite results for Valley teams.
Wasilla was the lone Valley winner on Wednesday, with Palmer and Colony both falling in first-day matchups. Thursday, Palmer and Colony rebounded to score wins in the 16-team tournament at Dimond High, and Wasilla suffered a loss.
Palmer, one of two Valley teams in the tournament’s maroon bracket, used a 16-1 third-quarter run to beat Lathrop 36-18 Thursday. Leya DePriest finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Carly Venzke and Kalei DePriest finished with six each.
Palmer held Lathrop to 16 percent shooting and forced 33 Malemutes turnovers.
Colony, also in the maroon bracket, beat Bartlett 64-36. Jennifer Solano finished with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds. Solano was a stellar 10 of 13 from the floor, and 4 of 6 from the free throw line. Faith Farris chipped in 16 and Izzy Tweed added 11.
Wasilla, which advanced to the tournament’s gold bracket with a win on Wednesday, suffered a 55-50 loss to West Anchorage Thursday. Amanda Hutchins scored 14 to lead Wasilla. Kaylyn Kelly was a perfect 4 for 4 from the field and 3 for 3 from the line, and scored 11 points. Cassidy Edwards finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
On Wednesday, the Warriors survived a late South rally to beat the Wolverines 60-52 and move into the Shootout’s gold bracket.
Hutchins led the Warriors with 10 points in the victory. Edwards and McKenna Dinkel also contributed to the well-rounded scoring attack with nine points each. Dinkel also finished with a game-high 15 rebounds.
After taking a 33-29 lead into halftime, Wasilla extended its lead to 16 points with a 17-5 third-quarter run. South scored 18 during the final quarter in an attempt to get back into the game.
Thunder Mountain used a 12-point first quarter to edge Palmer 33-32. The Falcons led by as many as nine points in the win, but Palmer outscored Thunder Mountain 17-14 in the second half.
The Moose also outrebounded the Falcons 41-26. Both teams shot less than 33 percent in the game.
Leya DePriest led Palmer with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Venzke added 11 points and Kalei DePriest pulled down 10 rebounds.
Led by the monster effort from center Ruthy Hebard, West Valley scored a 61-42 win over Colony Wednesday. Hebard finished with 29 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks in the win.
Izzy Tweed led Colony with 12.
