Moose knock off defending champs

ANCHORAGE -- Last October, the Bartlett Golden Bears took one step closer to an Alaska state football title by sending the Palmer Moose off the turf of Anchorage Football Stadium with a 24-30 loss, ending Palmer's season.

Last week the Moose took another step toward their goal of a state crown, by sending the defending champs off that same turf of AFS with a 37-14 loss.

The Moose gained 362 yards on the ground as they rolled to a 23-point victory over the Bears.

Allen Franklin led the Moose ground attack with 141 yards and two touchdowns. Franklin scored on a 17-yard run in the first quarter and from 10 yards out in the second frame.

Senior wingback Mike Weber ran for 119 yards on 16 carries.

Fellow senior Charlie Bentti added 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The signal caller posted scoring runs of 35 and 3 yards.

Palmer jumped out to a 23-6 lead in the first half. The Moose scored a trio of running touchdowns and kicker Devon Conroy booted a 22-yard field goal as the first half expired.

Bentti and Zach Fox added touchdown runs for Palmer in the second half and the stingy Moose defense held Bartlett scoreless in the final two

quarters.
