PALMER -- The Palmer boys' basketball squad nearly pulled off a momumental upset on Tuesday, but unfortunately for the squad, the Moose fell just short. Despite trailing by three points at halftime, Bartlett rallied to beat the Moose 64-58.
A Palmer win would have marked the first Bartlett loss since Jan 10. 2003.
The Moose held steady against the state's top-ranked team and two-time defending state champions, allowing just 24 points to the Golden Bears in the first half. Palmer led 27-24 after two quarters.
The Bears used an 18-10 run in the fourth quarter to help prevent the upset.
Stanley Ratcliff led the Moose with a game-high 22 points. Jesse Prins hit a pair of three-pointers en route to scoring 14 for Palmer.
Doug Hardy led Bartlett with 18 points.
Palmer girls top Bartlett
Emily Bolling exploded for 12 points in the third quarter to lead the Palmer girls past Bartlett 49-33 in Anchorage on Tuesday.
Bolling, a senior forward, scored a game-high 21 points. Keisha Hooker added 10 for the Moose in the non-conference win.
Palmer extended its winning streak to five games.
Knights storm Service
Colony allowed just five first half points, including none in the second quarter, and rode its defense to a 43-26 win over Service on Tuesday.
Kristina Klapperich led the Knights with 13 points. Eight different players found the basket for Colony.
Colony improved to 8-5.
Cougars slip past Knights
The Service Cougars edged the Colony boys 46-45 at Colony High School on Tuesday.
Newcomer Ricky Cunningham led the Knights with 11 points. Justin Schwartzbauer added 10.
The loss was the second to Service by less than two points this season. Colony dropped a two-point game to the Cougars earlier this season in the East Tournament.
Eagles fly past Warriors
West used a 19-11 run in the second quarter to erase an early first quarter deficit and defeat the Wasilla Warriors 63-58 on Tuesday.
Matt Crane poured in a game-high 29 points for the Warriors in the loss.
Ramon Harris led the Eagles with 25 points from the floor.
