PALMER - Coleman Ahrens scored a pair of touchdowns in just 13 seconds to lead the Palmer Moose to a 34-19 win over the defending state champion Juneau-Douglas Crimson in a rematch of the 2007 state title game at Machetanz Field on Friday.
Ahrens broke a 13-13 tie with a 31-yard run at the 11:52 mark of the fourth quarter. On Juneau's first play of the ensuing drive, Ahrens recovered a Lincoln Maka fumble, and then on Palmer's first play of its next drive, Ahrens rumbled for a 37-yard score to give the Moose the 14-point lead.
Ahrens and fellow junior Brennan Bohman each topped the 100-yard mark in the win, and Palmer scored a victory over Juneau for just the second time in school history.
Junior Johnny Daly sparked the Moose by returning the opening kickoff 86 yards for the score, and junor Zach Zegzdryn kicked field goals of 35 and 38 yards in the victory.
Junior quarterback Dustin Silva also scored.
