Moose score first win of season

WASILLA -- The Palmer Moose notched their first win of the young season, and did so in dynamic fashion.

Palmer unleashed for 10 goals, cruising past the Nikiski Bulldogs 10-1 at Brett Memorial Ice Arena on Thursday.

Spencer Galvin led the Moose goal-scoring bonanza with four goals in the contest. The freshman forward also added a pair of assists.

Galvin scored shorthanded early in the first period to give the Moose a 2-0 lead. Galvin slapped in his own rebound, while Palmer was a man short.

Galvin struck with seven seconds left in the first period and 62 seconds into the second period.

He added his second unassisted tally late in the second period.

"He has been a big surprise," Palmer head coach Brian Fish said of his freshman. "No doubt he has a lot of skill offensively."

Fish said that he has been pleased with the play from his top line -- Galvin and seniors Sam Roy and Kent Blaylock. Fish said that the three compliment each other with their speed and skill, but each brings something different to the table.

The top Palmer line generated seven of the team's 10 goals in the contest. In addition to Galvin's four scores, Blaylock had two goals and Roy lit the lamp once.

Blaylock also had four assists in the game.

Alex Senta also scored twice in the game and Jaxon Logan registered a goal.

Kyle Berti stopped 17 of 18 shots in the contest for Palmer. Just a night after he was forced to make 40 saves against Wasilla, Berti only faced three shots in the first period and four in the third.

Nikiski netminder Luke Hardesty stopped 35 of 45 shots.

Random shots … Palmer improved to 1-2 with the win … The Moose were 1-2 on the powerplay, while Nikiski finished 0-5 with the advantage … Palmer will next face Colony, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. at the Brett Arena.
