Moose sweep Kenai Central, Soldotna

PALMER — Palmer finished off its Northern Lights Conference regular season with a sweep of Kenai Peninsula teams Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Moose swept winless Kenai Central 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-15) , then followed that up with a 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-20) win over Soldotna on Saturday. The two victories left the Moose with a 7-3 record in NLC competition.

Soldotna put up a bit of a fight Saturday against the Moose, coming out and picking up a 25-20 win to put the Moose down a game early.

“I think everyone stayed in bed a little too late this morning,” Palmer coach Steve Reynolds said following the match.

The Moose woke up in the second game, narrowly beating out the Stars by a 26-24 margin. That got the Moose rolling, as the team picked up 25-16 and 25-20 wins to close things out.

Nicole Kenney led Palmer with 14 kills Saturday, while Sarah Svedin picked up 21 assists.

Reynolds said he was happy with his team’s ability to bounce back against the Stars, the top team in the NLC’s Southern Division.

“After we got woken up we got going after that,” he said.

Palmer currently sits in first place in the NLC’s Northern Division, although Colony (6-1) and Kodiak (4-3) each have three games left to play in the regular season.
