PALMER — It’s been quite some time since the Colony Knights have had an opportunity to host a cross-country ski race on school grounds. But on Friday and Saturday, for the first time in more than two years, the Knights had their chance.
Colony hosted the Mat-Su Miracle Ski Race on the school’s Ed Strabel Trails. The event featured a girls’ 3.5-kilometer freestyle on the first day and a 3.5-K the next day. There was also the 7-K boys’ freestyle and 3.5-K boys’ classic.
The Palmer Moose swept the team standings and individual titles. Schyler Knopp had the best combined two-day total to win the boys’ individual title. He also led the Moose to victory in the team standings.
Palmer’s Hannah Smith boasted the lowest combined time for the girls and helped the Moose finish first in the girls’ team standings.
Abe Meyerhofer led Colony with a runner-up finish in the boys standings, while Wasilla’s Connor Mattson was third. Palmer held the top two spots in the girls’ standings. Smith finished first, ahead of runner-up Meagan Lynn. A trio of Knights, led by Tracie Haan, finished third through fifth. Tressa Loveless led Wasilla, finishing 19th.
