PALMER — The Palmer Moose swept the team standings during the 2013 Senior Send-Off at Palmer Pool Saturday.
Senior Katie Stark used a record-breaking performance to lead the Palmer girls to a first-place finish in the team standing. Starks broke a school record in the 200 freestyle, using a time of 1 minute and 58.69 seconds to win the event. The prior mark of 1:59.69 was set in 1986, and had stood as the Palmer swimming program’s longest-standing record.
Stark was one of seven Palmer girls to win an event during the meet. Naomi Graham grabbed a pair of victories, winning the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Millie Snelders (200 IM), Sarah Hanson (500 freestyle), McKenzie Musgrave (100 backstroke) and Noelle Graham (100 breaststroke) also won races. Palmer’s Samantha Laselle finished in a first-place tie with Colony’s Katelyn Foster in the girls’ 1 meter dive.
Palmer’s Daniel Jackson (100 freestyle) and Nick Geffken (500 freestyle) each won events to lead the Moose to a first-place finish in the boys’ team standings.
Joseph Anderson scored victories in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle to lead the Colony boys.
Cyle Ford (first in boys’ 200 IM) and Ashley Phillips (first in the girls’ 100 butterfly) led the Wasilla Warriors.
Local teams are now preparing for the Region III Championships, which start Friday in Kenai.
