PALMER — The Palmer girls’ basketball squad bounced back from a slow start to grab a victory in its Northern Lights Conference season-opener Saturday afternoon.
The Moose used 31 second-half points to post a 50-45 win over Kenai Central at Palmer High.
Julia Benshetler scored a game-high 16 points for Palmer. Abrianna Busbey and Avery Pettingill added 11 each. Pettingill knocked down a trio of three-pointers in the win.
Brooke Satathite led Kenai with 13.
The Palmer boys completed the NLC home sweep with a 54-31 win over Kenai.
Jacob Titus hit four three-pointers and scored a team-high 12 for the Moose. Clayton Southwick added 10 and Dae Osinesky chipped in nine.
Luke Beiser led Kenai with a game-high 15. Preben Strende added 10.
Palmer held Kenai to only 13 second-half points.
Wasilla girls, boys sweep Kodiak
The Wasilla girls and boys opened their NLC schedules with wins over Kodiak Friday and Saturday at Wasilla High.
The Wasilla girls held Kodiak scoreless in the first half Saturday, and posted a 51-8 victory. The Bears shot a mere 3 of 28. Olivia Davies netted a game-high 14 for the Warriors. She also grabbed a game-best eight rebounds. Kalicia Hodges added 11, and Carrisa Vasquez chipped in nine.
Friday, Wasilla held Kodiak to a pair of points in the first quarter and one in the third during a 53-15 victory.
Maclaren Obremski led the way with 15. Diondra Lawhead added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Saturday, the Wasilla boys completed a sweep with a 57-36 win over Kodiak. Daniel Headdings led Wasilla with 15. Reilly Devine added 14. Aeron Milliron finished with a dozen. Jordan Knight had seven points and 13 rebounds.
Friday, Devine used a double-double, 12 points and 14 rebounds, to lead Wasilla to a 41-30 win.
Mariners sweep Redington
The Homer Mariners grabbed a pair of wins at Redington Saturday.
Grace Godfrey scored eight to lead the Homer girls to a 40-25 victory over the Huskies. Courtney Crockett and Abby Fuller scored seven each.
The Homer boys beat Redington 74-42. Brody Brooks scored 10 for Redington.
