WASILLA — Senior Coleman Ahrens scored four times to lead the Palmer Moose to a 48-7 win over the Wasilla Warriors in the 31st Potato Bowl at Veterans Memorial Field in Wasilla on Friday.
With the win, Palmer clinches one of the Railbelt Conference's four playoff berths. Wasilla's 2009 season ended with the loss.
In other action, Juneau-Douglas edged Colony 11-0 in Juneau, and captured the Railbelt title with the win. It was Colony's first loss of the season, and the Knights are now the second seed in the conference.
North Pole clinched a playoff spot with a 61-0 win over Lathrop in Fairbanks.
Juneau now owns the top playoff seed in the Railbelt. Colony is second. Both Juneau and Colony will host first-round playoff games next weekend. The top two seeds from the Railbelt face the bottom two playoff teams from Anchorage's Cook Inlet Conference. Colony will host either Bartlett or Chugiak in the first round. Those teams play Saturday in Anchorage, with the winner of that match earning a first-round playoff date with the Knights Friday night at CHS. The loser will make the trip to Juneau.
Palmer (4-2) is the third seed from the Railbelt, and will play either West Anchorage or South Anchorage. North Pole is the conference's fourth seed.
West and South play Saturday with the Cook Inlet title on the line. The CIC champ will host North Pole next week. The loser will host Palmer.
