The Palmer Moose opened the 2025-26 prep hockey season with a trio of wins and a tourney title.
The Moose won the Peninsula Ice Challenge in Soldotna.
Palmer goalie Kai Curl used a 21-save shutout to lead the Moose to a 3-0 win over rival Wasilla on the final day of the tourney. Jonah Engelbrecht scored early in the second period to give Palmer a 1-0 lead. Chase Ringler and Clayton Conrad added third-period goals.
Wasilla outshot the Moose 21-18 in the loss.
Ryder Lawton also earned a shutout in the Palmer net during a 1-0 win over Soldotna. The sophomore made 25 saves. Eli Ringler scored the Moose goal.
Palmer started its tourney with a 4-3 win over Kenai. Conrad, Levi Goff, Jaxon Burnett and Zander Anderson scored. Lawton made 17 saves.
Wasilla finished 2-1 in the tourney.
Wasilla blasted Soldotna 8-3. Four of those goals came on the power play. Easton Styers and Elijah Barcelona led the Warriors with two goals each. Branson Hagel, Robert Mikulecky, Matthew DeMaster and Dylan Mead also scored. Chase Mallstrum finished with a pair of assists.
Wasilla also beat Kenai 6-3. Barcelona, Mallstrum, Mead, Mikulecky, DeMaster and Richard Strick scored for WHS.
