To the editor:
I believe Mike Dunleavy would be an ideal school board member for the Mat-Su Borough School District. Through the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project I have had the opportunity and pleasure to work with Mike since January 2008. As Project Manager, Mike chooses to make data-driven decisions. He does not micro-manage but rather focuses on the big picture and allows each person to work in his or her area of expertise.
He understands the education system PK-20 and he is interested in what works for each individual student. He is a problem-solver who looks for unique paths to accomplishing the goals and objectives in question. As a former superintendent he has the knowledge and understanding of school boards, how they function, their purpose, and what they can and cannot do. He has three children in the school system providing him with yet another perspective. As a current school board member in my own community I have appreciated the insight Mike has been able to provide. I feel Mike would be an excellent school board member and I encourage you to vote for him.
