More than 200 compete in Why Not Tri? triathlon

WASILLA — Scott Clemetson took home the gold during the Why Not Tri? Triathlon in Wasilla earlier this month.

Clemetson posted a time of 56 minutes and 57 seconds in the event, which featured a 9-mile bike ride, 5-kilometer run and 400-meter swim in the Wasilla Pool. Clemetson was one of three competitors to break an hour. David Cadogan finished 18 seconds behind Clemetson to finish second, and third-place Brian Richardson crossed the finish line at 59:31.

Ryan Cadenhead and Joel Ainsworth rounded out the men’s top 5.

Aiclia Hull won the women’s class and finished in a tie for fourth overall with her time of 1:00.27. Hull crossed the finish line alongside Cadenhead.

Tana Luna (1:04.59) finished second in the women’s class. Elizabeth Calibro (1:06.50), Richell Carmichael (1:07.05) and Pamela Watkins (1:07.56) rounded out the women’s top 5.

The race started and stopped at Wasilla High. The run took participants down Bogard Road to Wasilla-Fishhook Road and back. The course took competitors down Bogard Road, up Peck Street and from Wasilla-Fishhook, back to Bogard via Seldon Road.

More than 200 individuals and 32 teams competed.
