PALMER — The North American Hockey League released the opening day rosters for its 26 teams Tuesday and there are 25 Alaskans slated to start the 2010-11 season skating in the Tier II Junior A league.
Of the 25 from the 49th state, two hail from the Mat-Su Valley. Former Colony standout Blake Huppert is entering his second season with the Palmer-based Alaska Avalanche, while former Wasilla all-state forward Trent Wohlers will begin his first junior season with the Kenai River Brown Bears.
The Brown Bears have the most Alaskans on a roster, with 10.
Huppert is one of five Avs playing in their home state, along with Anchorage’s Blake Mendenhall, Chase Van Allen, Zach Smith and Grant Dye.
There are 13 players from the Anchorage area and eight from Fairbanks.
The Avs drop the puck on the 2010-11 season against the Kenai River Brown Bears Friday at 7 p.m. at the Palmer Ice Arena.
