WASILLA — Alaska State Troopers arrested an 18-year-old Wasilla woman Monday in connection with burns on her son’s legs, according to reports.
Sky Stone was charged with and pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two counts of second-degree assault and one charge of third-degree assault after troopers received a report that her child had been admitted to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center May 27 with burns on his legs, authorities said.
Stone allegedly used “a dangerous instrument” to cause some of the burns, according to an indictment filed in Alaska Superior Court at Palmer July 3. It wasn’t clear from the indictment whether the burns arose from extreme heat or cold, or what instrument was used. A trooper spokesperson said the burns were “thermal” in nature.
The second-degree assault charges are Class B felonies. The third-degree charge is a Class C felony. If convicted and sentenced to the maximum penalty, Stone could face up to 20 years in prison, five years probation, and $25,000 in fines.
Stone remained in the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility Thursday on $2,500 bond. Her next court appearance is Aug. 22 in front of Judge Eric Smith.
