A local motorcycle organization made a contribution to families, as Valley A.B.A.T.E. donated $1,900 to the Alaska Family Resource Center recently.

Valley A.B.A.T.E. is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to raising money for local charities, while promoting motorcycle safety and awareness.

The group donated almost $2,000 to the Alaska Family Resource Center on Jan. 12. The funds were raised during the organization's Christmas Charity Ball at the Golden Nugget Lounge.

"We could clearly see through all the turmoil generated by the Sept. 11 aftershock that our community needed the support," said Valley A.B.A.T.E. president Mac Aanerud. "The response from the local businesses was overwhelming. With only a couple of exceptions, every business contacted donated products or services for the charity auction. We sincerely thank all the businesses and individuals who helped make this event a success."

Aanerud presented the check to Amy Smith, executive director for the Alaska Family Resource Center.
