WASILLA -- A 28-year-old Wasilla man was pronounced dead at the scene Monday when the motorcycle he was driving slammed head-on into a pickup truck at the intersection of Bogard and Engstrom roads.
Kevin J. Godwin was riding a Suzuki dirt bike when he collided with a 1986 Ford pickup driven by Steven E. Mann, 40, of Wasilla, according to an Alaska State Trooper report. Mann was not injured in the 10:09 p.m. incident, troopers said.
Witnesses at the scene said Godwin was driving "very recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic, and traveling at high speeds prior to the crash," according to troopers.
Mann told troopers he saw the motorcycle being driven on the shoulder of the road, the report said. Mann also said Godwin turned to look behind him when he swerved into the oncoming lane, troopers added.
Godwin was wearing a helmet. Troopers said his dirt bike was totaled and the truck sustained extensive front-end damage. Emergency medical service personnel on scene pronounced Godwin dead at 10:19 p.m., troopers said.
