MEADOW LAKES — A rear-end collision pushed a car into the wrong lane of the Parks Highway Sunday, where it hit a motorcycle, dealing serious injuries to two riders in their 60s.
According to an Alaska State Trooper press statement, shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, at Parks Highway and Stanley Road, a southbound green 1999 Saturn rear-ended a 2000 Buick and pushed it across the centerline where it hit a red northbound 2003 Honda motorcycle.
Allen L. Hassen, 69, of Wasilla, had been waiting in his Buick for a chance to turn left.
The motorcycle riders, Alfred D. and Louise A. Letendre, both of Wasilla, aged 65 and 62 respectively, were thrown from the motorcycle.
Medics rushed them to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
Hershey R. Haney, 22, of Wasilla, the driver of the Saturn, was cited for not exercising due care.
Troopers estimate damage to the Buick at $4,000, to the motorcycle at $1,500 and say the Saturn was totaled.
