WASILLA — A Jeep Wrangler making a left turn entered the path of a motorcycle Saturday, causing a crash that killed a Wasilla man.
According to an Alaska State Troopers press statement, the collision was reported at 10:06 p.m., April 5 on Bogard Road at Caribou Street.
“The driver of the Jeep was in the wrong lane of travel. He was making a left-hand turn onto Caribou and he went into the opposing lane of traffic and he and the motorcycle collided,” said AST spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.
Ross A. Forys, 29, of Wasilla, was driving the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Piloting the 1980 Yamaha motorcycle was Cameron R. MacDonald, 29, of Wasilla. Ipsen said MacDonald was wearing a helmet, but the crash pinned him under the Jeep.
“Bystanders and troopers were able to lift the Jeep up a little bit to pull him out, but unfortunately he had already succumbed to his injuries,” Ipsen said.
She said that an AST investigation into the crash continues. That investigation includes things like toxicology screenings for Forys, whose criminal record in Alaska is spotless. If any charges result it would be after that investigation wraps up, which Ipsen predicted would take quite a bit of time. She said death investigations are usually lengthy, but investigations of fatal crashes are particularly so.
“They want to make sure everything is in order,” she said.
