WASILLA — A mechanical malfunction at Mile 46, Parks Highway sent a motorcycle rider flying Tuesday afternoon, Alaska State Troopers report.

According to an AST press statement, the wreck was reported at 12:57 p.m. at Mile 46 just outside Wasilla city limits, near the Vienna Woods subdivision.

Troopers say the motorcyclist, Ronald D. Bass, 30, of Big Lake, was northbound when the engine on his black 1997 Suzuki motorcycle seized up.

“The back wheel locked up. Bass was launched off the motorcycle and struck the pavement. Bass was not wearing a helmet and sustained minor injuries,” troopers report.

Bass was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Damage to the Suzuki was estimated at $1,000.
