MSB Assembly accepts AK Military and Veterans Affairs grant to enhance cybersecurity

During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB) Assembly on January 7, passed an ordinance to accept and appropriate a grant in the amount of $15,000 from the Alaska State Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, 2023 State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) and a second ordinance to approve the outlined scope of work to modernize critical telecommunications infrastructure.

“This will further protect our citizens by ensuring the upgrading and modernization of our cyber system,” Finance Director Cheyenne Heinel told the Assembly before the ordinances unanimously.

The MSB Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Division will utilize the funds to perform to modernize critical telecommunications infrastructure modernizations that are needed to reduce systemic cybersecurity risk at the MSB, including purchase of a firewall, server, and SMS server to create emergency services security infrastructure alignment.

This is a proactive initiative designed to bolster the cybersecurity defenses of the Borough's digital ecosystem, further protecting the welfare and safety of the Borough and its citizens.
