MSBSD Student of the Week: Angelina Klapperich

Congratulations to Colony High School senior Angelina Klapperich for her selection as this week’s Mat-Su Borough School District “Student of the Week.”

Klapperich is community-minded, volunteering in service organizations at CHS and all around the Mat-Su. Most recently, Klapperich worked under the direction of Houston Middle School art teacher Roy Stone and MSBSD Literacy Coordinator Kathy Moffitt to direct a group of middle school students in a video highlighting Mat-Su schools for a Sept. 2 professional development.

Styled after the popular Progressive insurance television commercial campaign, Klapperich (and her mom, Linda Jo Klapperich, a PJMS teacher), starred as “Flo” in “Innovation.msbsd.” As with anything in which she is involved, she brought enthusiasm, cooperation and confidence to the production for the district-wide staff event.

Last year, Angelina was chosen as a student representative to participate in the district consensus-building workshops held throughout the year. Some of her past accomplishments include:

• 2010 Miss Alaska Outstanding Teen

• 2007 Alaska Junior National Teen

• 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Service Award

• 2007 Lieutenant Governor’s Volunteer Award

Klapperich is an accomplished pianist. In addition to her personal accomplishments, she participates in co-curricular and academic organizations at CHS, including serving as class president all four years, National Honor Society and CHS student government. Her community service work has involved volunteering at Bishop’s Attic and the Palmer Senior Center, both in Palmer. At CHS, she is involved in Peer Helpers, Partners Club and Leadership. Active in Sacred Heart Church in Wasilla, she teaches faith formation classes and helps with altar service training.
