MSBSD Student of the Week: Sophie Miller

Sophie Miller, 8th grade, Teeland Middle School

Sophie Miller is an active, engaging student at Teeland Middle School. She’s president of Teeland’s National Junior Honor Society, a group that has participated in service projects such as Red Ribbon Week at Teeland, Halloween Safe Night at Cottonwood Creek Elementary, and in December will focus on Valley Community for Recycling Solutions.

First-chair flute player, Sophie enjoys band. She is also a member of the international award-winning School Design of the Future team, and she and her classmates are going for a second winning design this year. Participating in Science Olympiad gives Sophie another national competition opportunity.

One of Sophie’s foremost passions is caring for and showing her horses, including her painted pony, Little Joe. A member of the United States Pony Club, she and Little Joe participate in show jumping and dressage, where she has achieved the level of C-2 standards of proficiency.

Katherine Ellsworth, Teeland Middle School principal, said, “Sophie is an exemplary student. She is helpful, kind, courteous and demonstrates high academic achievement.”
