Congratulations to Jesse Dahms, the MSBSD “Student of the Week!” The Palmer High senior is the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from Nordstrom.
The Nordstrom prize patrol, his parents and his brother, Daniel, a PHS sophomore, surprised him at school recently with the news.
“I’m amazed,” Dahms said of receiving one of 80 Nordstrom scholarships nationwide.
In addition to the $10,000 scholarship, he also received a new MacBook computer.
Palmer High Principal, Wolfgang Winter wrote a letter recommending Dahms to Nordstrom for the scholarship.
“It has long been a dream of Jesse’s to go into the medical field in some capacity, as his mother is a physician,” Winter wrote. “His father, however, is a pastor, and Jesse has seen the possibilities of going into the ministry.”
Dahms said he plans to major in elementary education and youth ministry so he can come back to Alaska and establish a Christian youth camp.
“I am so excited for Jesse,” his mom Laurie Dahms said. “This scholarship will allow him to receive further education and we are so thankful.”
Dahms also is involved in cross country running, football, Nordic skiing, soccer, National Honor Society and more.
