MTA files request for winter installation charge

MAT-SU -- The Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) gave notice recently that Matanuska Telephone Association Inc. (MTA) filed a tariff revision request to add a winter installation charge.

The charge reflects the amount MTA will charge to place a temporary drop wire at the customer location during the winter months when it is not possible to dig.

The normal summer construction season is generally from late May to mid-October. The current charge is $40.25 for the temporary drop and $40.25 to place a permanent drop. MTA proposes a flat winter installation charge of $100 per customer location. A winter installation is a temporary installation to provide permanent service. The winter installation charge will apply to an order for service that is scheduled for installation after the ground has frozen. MTA anticipates approximately 300 customers will be affected by the winter installation charge each year.

More information regarding the filing may be obtained from MTA at 1740 S. Chugach St. in Palmer. The filing may be inspected at the RCA offices at 701 West 8th Ave., Suite 300, Anchorage, AK 99501.

Comments may be filed with the RCA at the above address. A copy of the comments should also be sent to MTA's address. Comments should be filed with the RCA by Nov. 28.
