WASILLA — Matanuska Telephone Association has announced that it are planning to add a sales location in The Shoppes at Sun Mountain by the end of the year.
MTA put out a request for quote to help build a new 6,000-square foot facility to help market some of the services MTA can offer. Along with the new space, MTA announced that it will be the preferred tech providers of Sun Mountain, providing exclusive offers for all of The Shoppes as they are built out over the next five years.
“We feel that The Shoppes at Sun Mountain are going to be kind of a new hub for the Valley. It’s always exciting when something new comes,” said MTA Public Relations Manager Jessica Gilbert.
The old MTA space is only 2,000 square feet, and will close when the new location is constructed. Gilbert said that MTA is optimistic about having the new location open before 2020. The space will not sell items, but Gilbert says that with more space, MTA can show what a smart home could look like when connected to its internet. The sales representatives that work out of the current location will have a larger area with more opportunities, and the new store will also provide a call center. All of the shoppers at Sun Mountain will have access to free wi-fi from MTA once the new store is complete.
“MTA is continuing to expand in exciting, high-tech ways, and this new location is a perfect symbol of that,” said Michael Burke, CEO of MTA. “We’re honored to be the preferred technology provider of the Shoppes at Sun Mountain, and can’t wait for everyone to see the end result.”
Gilbert said that MTA takes specific pride in the partnerships throughout the community such as the turf at the Menard Sports Complex or the MTA Center on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.
“We’re excited for this space to be a place where all of those community partnerships can kind of come together,” Gilbert said.
MTA has taken the lead when it comes to the burgeoning esports community in the Mat-Su Valley. Esports was introduced last year in the Mat-Su Borough School District and teams from Palmer and Colony High Schools competed in national competitions. The larger space will additionally add a location for MTA to promote and host gaming competitions in the future.
