PALMER — Several homeowners throughout the Equestrian Acres subdivision reported stolen property the night of Jan. 31 and morning of Feb. 1.
Residents in homes on Belmont Circle, Kelso Lane, and Kentucky Derby Drive reported that their cars were broken into late Thursday night. Kyle Cahill says that he has heard from at least six homeowners who reported having their cars broken into and sifted through. The thieves left garbage in their wake and many homeowners are fearful that the thieves will go uncharged. Cahill said he had sunglasses and pieces of mail that had been stolen from another car and dropped in their driveway. Homeowners that live in the subdivision are actively looking through surveillance footage to try and identify the thieves.
“The biggest issue is that the law enforcement is low. They’re few and far between for (Alaska State Troopers,” Cahill said. “With all the drug activity going on recently, especially this last 12 months there’s been an uptick in crime. Something this big if it doesn’t have any direct impact or lead to an arrest, there’s the possibility of larger crimes like breaking and entering.”
Anyone with information on the thefts is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 745-2131.
