Murkowski's disappointing vote

To the editor:

During a trip to Anchorage, Senator Murkowski said "We are all afraid ..." First of all, they are words I never want to hear from a leader, and secondly, Senator Murkowski, my guess is that you are not nearly as afraid as the poorest and most vulnerable one-third of your constituents throughout Alaska who will suffer because of your cowardly "Yes" vote on President Trump's big ugly bill. The Medicaid cuts are only one part of the bill that will gravely impact the working class and poor in your State. And you know that!

Murkowski, a multi-millionaire, who is well paid as a US Senator and receives the best benefits in the country, was doing the media circuit promoting her new book while the Senate Bill, with devastating effects for millions of Americans, was being debated in Washington. That's not representation! It is selfish behavior from someone, I believe, who is out of touch with the majority of her constituents and the people of this country.

Senator Murkowski, your vote could have put you, our state and the country on the right side of history. Shame on you for choosing the self-serving route that takes from the poorest people of this country to benefit the wealthiest. That is not the America many of us believe in.

Ann Sugrue,

Anchorage
