MONTANA CREEK — A pair of Interior mushers broke track records during the Montana Creek Championships, an event held last weekend by the Montana Creek Dog Mushers Association in Montana Creek.

A trio of marks were set during the first day of the two-day event.

Arleigh Reynolds, of Fairbanks, used his time of 35 minutes and 44 seconds to set a new track record in the 12-mile open class.

Another Fairbanks musher, Amanda Byrd, set a new mark in the eight-dog class, with a time of 22:30.

A third record was also set. Amy Gjeston won the six-dog class, with a record-setting time of 16:52.

On the second day, Michael Tetzner swept the eight-dog and open class races. Tetzner finished ahead of Christian Taveau and Egil Ellis in the open class, and Brenda Burge and Jennifer Probert in the eight-dog. The final MCDMA event of the season, the Susitna Valley Championships, is slated for Jan. 23-24.
