Br-r-r-r-r, another cold day in the Valley today. As I write this I look at the outdoor thermometer and see it’s a brisk 13 below. It never did warm up to more than 5 below at our house today. Days like today are made for cozy home time. Instead, I bundled myself up and headed back to the gym.
Trainer Bill had his hands full with Trim to Win contestants lining up to make the weigh in deadline, so I headed upstairs to work out without him. I did 15 minutes on the treadmill, then moved to the weight room and did the Nautilus circuit, and finished with 20 minutes on the recumbent bike. A few stretching exercises afterward rounded out the workout. On the way out the door, Bill and I made a date for late tomorrow afternoon. I can hardly wait to see what he has in store for me next.
I have found that the soreness I experienced after the first day is not as bad today. I can still tell the muscles I haven’t used in a while are still there, but I guess that’s a good thing. I’ve been told it usually gets better after the first week, we’ll see.
I haven’t had any cravings for sweets or pasta or any other food yet, so I’m thankful for that. However, I found myself really wanting a glass of wine with dinner tonight. I’m not a heavy drinker, but like an occasional glass of wine with dinner, and tonight just seemed like a nice night to have one. Not that we had a fancy dinner, chicken and veggies, but the yen was still there. As tempting as it was, I passed. I filled up my glass with water, added a bit of lemon juice and the urge soon passed.
I’m sure there are going to be more temptations on this journey to good health for all of us. Learning to talk ourselves through them will be the key to victory. I’m not the best at this yet, but just as everything else does, this too, takes practice.
I hope you all had a great day in your quest for better health.
