MYFA to begin playoffs

The first round of Matanuska Youth Football Association playoffs begins Saturday, with games at Tanaina Elementary and Houston High School.

The fifth- and sixth-grade division will start its first game with Wasilla's United Rentals facing Wasilla's American Legion Unit 35 at 10 a.m.

At noon, Colony's Alaska Realty will square off against Palmer's MTA. Both games will be played at Tanaina Elementary.

Valley Business Machines received a bye in the first round and will play next weekend.

In the seventh- and eighth-grade division, Wasilla's TJ Electric plays Colony's First National Bank starting at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m., Colony's Valley Block and Concrete will face Houston's Weld Air.

Wasilla's Sons of the American Legion will take on Palmer's Alco Construction at 1 p.m.

The three games will take place at Houston High School.

Palmer's Extreme Sports received a bye in the first round and will play next weekend.

Playoffs will continue next weekend and the championship games will be played Oct. 6.
