After many years of illness, Nancy Elizabeth George, 68, died in peace at home Dec. 24, 2003. She was comforted in prayer by her family, surrounded by all who held her in their hearts this Christmas Eve.
She was born Aug. 12, 1935, to Oscar and Alice Lee Moberly of Middleton, Idaho. She attended school in Middleton and worked for Home Dairies and CC Andersons in Boise, Idaho. She married Raymond S. George of Lewiston, Idaho, on Dec. 30, 1956. The couple moved from Idaho to Alaska in 1965. They raised their six children in Anchorage until 1971 when they moved to the Mat-Su.
Mrs. George shared her talents for sewing and cooking as a 4-H group leader and as a judge of sewing entries at the Alaska State Fair. She shared her musical talent playing organ and piano at church, singing with church choirs, the Sweet Adelines and annual Messiah productions. She shared her faith with her family and friends through her many years of involvement in both St. Michael's Parish and Sacred Heart Parish where she worked as the parish secretary. She shared her love for gardening, growing vegetables, fruit trees and flowers for all to enjoy. She enjoyed her many springs transplanting seedlings at the Dearborn greenhouse and especially enjoyed her involvement with the Friends of the Palmer Library. Mrs. George shared her love of fishing and hunting in the great Alaska outdoors. She holds the family record for largest halibut and her children still tell stories of her expert marksmanship.
Mrs. George leaves her husband of 47 years, 20 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four sons, Stan (Brenda) George, Martin (Caroline) George, Andy (Stephanie) George, and Bryan George all of Wasilla; and two daughters Alicia (Floyd) Hernandez of Houston, Texas, and Margaret (Kevin) Keene of Wasilla. She is survived by her brother Lee (Virginia) Moberly, sister Donna Gabica , sisters-in-law Marie Price and Margaret Johnson, all of Idaho.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held today at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1201 Bogard Road in Wasilla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Friends the Palmer Library, 655 S. Valley Way, Palmer, AK 99645, or a charity of your choice.
