Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Nastasia Clara Vaska, 79, died of natural causes Jan. 18, 2002, at the Palmer Pioneers' Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 24, 2002, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Aniak, with Father Machhi as celebrant. Burial will be at the Aniak Cemetery.
Mrs. Vaska was born July 5, 1922, in Paimiut, Alaska. Her lifetime was spent in Alaska, where she resided in Aniak until 1990, in Anchorage from 1990 to 1998, and at the Palmer Pioneers' Home since 1998. She was a cook for the Kuspuk School District in Aniak until her retirement.
Her hobbies and special interests were sewing, fishing, knitting, hunting, berry picking, playing bingo, camping and going to church.
Her family said, "She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her."
She is survived by her sons, Alexander W. Vaska, of Anchorage, and Bernard Vaska and James G. Vaska, of Aniak; daughter, Eva Passamika, of Aniak; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Palmer Pioneers' Home, 250 E. Fireweed Ave., Palmer, AK 99645.
