Most of the Mat-Su Borough has made it to nearly the end of October without any measurable snow, but that is about to end as the National Weather Service warns that some areas should expect some snow beginning Monday, specifically the Matanuska Valley areas of Wasilla and Big Lake, and the Susitna Valley south of Talkeetna.
An impactful snowstorm is on track for large portions of Southcentral Alaska through Tuesday, beginning with light snow spread through much of Southcentral through the day on Monday. A transition from snow to rain is possible for portions of the Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage area Monday afternoon, though the northward extent of warming remains uncertain.
By Monday night, all precipitation is expected to fall as snow and bring significant impacts across Southcentral. The heaviest snow is expected in Wasilla westward in the Matanuska Valley, and South of Talkeetna in the Susitna Valley with total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches.
