WASILLA — Several local food trucks will be showcasing their menus during the opening weekend for the Palmer Towne Food Court, a new food truck market in downtown Palmer.
Lolly Hale and her husband Joseph created this new marketplace to give local food vendors a consistent venue to sell their products.
Hale said their vision is to establish another “hot spot” in Palmer’s downtown shopping district and give both established and up-and-coming food vendors the opportunity to grow their businesses.
“I feel like it really fits the Palmer Vibe,” Hale said.
Hale said they plan to feature a rotation of local food vendors throughout the summer.
She said the market is starting out as a seasonal venue, but this starting year will help them test the waters to see if they can establish a permanent indoor market for the rest of the year. She said this gives local vendors the chance to operate during the winter months, a time where many of them close down because it isn’t feasible to stay open. She said if all goes well, they will remodel the interior of the facility that formerly held a dry cleaning service through Joseph’s contracting company H Construction.
Hale said that she’s feeling optimistic about the longevity of this new market based on the amount of interest and excitement already growing across the community.
Several local food trucks participated in the initial test run for the Palmer Town Food Court in May, according to Hale. She said they received a lot of positive feedback from vendors and visitors alike.
Hale said that word of the new market quickly spread over social media, building the anticipation for the opening weekend and what’s to come after.
She said there’s a strong following for food trucks on Facebook with many people regularly driving across the Valley to grab meals from their favorite establishments after tracking down their most up to date parking locations.
“This is something people really want,” Hale said. “We’re really excited.”
Hale noted that they’re currently seeking any local food vendors interested in participating in the Palmer Towne Food Court.
