New life for Valley Life section

There’s a good chance you’ve seen the frequent television commercials announcing the conversion from analog to digital transmission, making those rabbit ears some of us still have perched on top of the set obsolete. With the television industry changing the way it delivers service to its consumers,

it makes sense for us to change the way we deliver our television viewing information to our readers.

Today’s issue marks the last issue of Bullseye. We plan to still include television scheduling information, but that information will now migrate into the pages of your newspaper.

Starting with the Friday, Feb. 6 edition, Valley Life will be expanded to include arts and entertainment news, along with the television grids. Friday editions will have the weekday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday viewing information; Sunday editions will have the weekday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday viewing information and Tuesday editions will have the weekday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday viewing information.

We know not everyone will be happy with this decision, but with so many people getting their viewing schedule electronically, either online or from their service providers, saving a few trees by reducing the number of printed pages currently used on a separate section seems to make sense.

Local arts and entertainment news will be migrated to the Valley Life section as well. Local columnists Josh Fryfogle and Josh Cole will continue to provide weekly updates on the growing local music scene and the listings of local arts and entertainment happenings around the Valley will also be there. The Dining Guide will also move to the Valley Life section and will now include a recipe feature from local chefs and aspiring chefs.

We know that weekends are prime entertainment time, so the Valley Life will lead our second, or “B,” section on Fridays and will include the classified advertising pages. Friday sports will move into our main, or “A,” section. Valley Life and the television schedule can be found in the main section on Sundays and Tuesdays.

As always, we appreciate comments from our readers on this change or other matters relating to your newspaper. You can e-mail your comments to me at kari.sleight@frontiersman.com or to editor T.C. Mitchell at tc.mitchell@frontiersman.com.
