New Nordic trails completed in Hatcher Pass

MAT-SU — Add to the list of local amenities 3.5 miles of new Nordic trails skiers can enjoy this winter in the Government Peak Recreation Area at Hatcher Pass.

Designed by Olympic skier and Mount Marathon legend Bill Spencer, the trails connect users with spectacular views. One ridge beholds Government Peak, the Chugach Range and Susitna Mountain. The trails are designed for recreational skiers and high school competitors.

For now, the trails are closed to protect the newly seeded soils. By next summer, the trails also will be open as walking routes.

MASCOT will provide bus service between Palmer and Wasilla and the recreation area on weekends from Nov. 1 through April 30.
