New Year's Eve Fireworks legal from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

MAT-SU — New Year’s Eve fireworks can be legally set off from private properties in the Mat-Su Borough from 6 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 31 until 1 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.

The Mat-Su Borough can issue fines of up to $500 for fireworks set off illegally on Mat-Su Borough land. Residents in the city of Wasilla also have a window from 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day to discharge fireworks on private property. Inside the city limits of Palmer, a commercial permit is required for a fireworks display.

Up to $500 fines may be imposed for illegal discharge of fireworks on Mat-Su Borough land which includes discharge of fireworks within 1,250 feet of any health care facility, assisted living facility, library or schools. It is also illegal to discharge fireworks in the Mat-Su Borough within 500 feet of any automotive service station or other premises where flammable liquids or gases are stored, and it is also illegal to discharge fireworks from within any structure or vehicle in the Mat-Su Borough.
