PALMER — A woman is dead following a multi-vehicle accident near Palmer Saturday evening.
Vinitchai Hollenbeck, 75, of Anchorage, died as result of her injuries sustained in the accident at Mat-Su Regional Hospital after she was transported from the scene. Hollenbeck was driving one of the three vehicles involved in the crash near the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Creekwood Park Circle, according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch published Sunday. Hollenbeck was one of three drivers and a passenger involved in the accident transported to Mat-Su Regional.
AST and Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services responded to the head-on collision jut after 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Two patients had to be extricated from their vehicles, Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services Deputy Director Ken Barkley said in an email. Four ambulances responded to the scene, Barkley said.
According to AST, all four patients were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
This is second fatal accident in the area in as many days.
A man was struck and killed by a vehicle near Palmer Friday night.
AST and Palmer Police responded to the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Creekwood Park Circle just before 11 p.m. Friday after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. Medical personnel declared the man dead at the scene, according to an AST online dispatch posted early Saturday morning. The man was wearing all dark clothing, and the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
According to AST, authorities are working to identify the deceased as the investigation continues.
