Burchell High School student speaker, Terry Bartlett shares the lessons he learned during his academic career during the 2021 graduation ceremony at the Menard Sports Center.

WASILLA — Burchell High School 2021 graduates were honored at the Menard Sports Center May 19.

Student speaker Terry Bartlett said that his past self would laugh at that the fact he’s graduating high school, but he made it. He said that he was proud that he and his fellow classmates were able to make it to this important achievement.

“We’ve all shown immense perseverance and drive. We’ve stayed focused and accomplished the goals we set for ourselves. Most importantly, we did not give up,” Bartlett said.

Bartlett shared the three most important lessons he learned in high school: not letting anyone but yourself determine your identity, having patience with yourself and the world around you, and that “life is a learning curve, and not a test.”

“The world will change you in ways that you cannot fathom but do not fight it. Let it help you grow. Have the strength to take hold of the reins and steer your changes in the direction you desire. Know you have the power and use it,” Bartlett said.
