WASILLA — A group of local volunteers were recognized during the Champions for Children event at Evangelo’s in Wasilla recently.

Jennie Weber, John Deal, Amy Butts, Kathy Lindner, Mandy Quimby, Loretta Huska, Claire Horton, Matt Netzley, Alyson Coffman, Cindy Youmans, and Kara Guggenmos were each recognized and received an engraved plaque from Valley Trophy.

The Mat-Su Education Association sponsors the event, which recognizes the importance and value of volunteers in local classrooms. Robin Ouelette, a Mat-Su teacher for more than 30 years, served as the keynote speaker. The Palmer High School jazz choir, which includes 16 students directed by Barbara Carroll, provided the entertainment.
