Thank you for the touching story about Chris Rogers and Elann Moren (Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, Dec. 9). Our hearts go out to them as well as the others involved in this unbelievable crime. This horrifying tragedy will be ingrained in the memories of their families and friends forever. What Christopher Erin Rogers Jr. (allegedly) did was plainly incomprehensible and inexcusable. There can be no justification for what he did.
What is additionally horrifying is the fact that our judicial system and the judge involved would even consider granting bail — in any amount — to this (alleged) confessed maniacal murderer. What if some eccentric millionaire came up with the $2 million bail set for him? He would be released back out on the street to finish the job he started, which, by his own admission, was to kill as many people as he could.
In a case like this, it is my opinion the perpetrator of the crimes should not be entitled to any bail, period. If this is something that needs to be legislated in Juneau, then so be it. Let’s get it done.
